Young filmmaker Akki Vishwanath Reddy’s upcoming film “China Piece,” a spy thriller with references to Galwan, has been referred by the Censor Board to the External Affairs Ministry.
It is probably the first Telugu film to be asked to seek clearance from the Union Ministry.
Ironically, “China Piece” now finds itself in exalted company, joining the likes of “Dhurandhar” and “Matrubhumi.”
While “Dhurandhar” got a clean chit before its release, the Salman Khan-starrer “Matrubhumi,” originally titled “Galwan,” was asked to change its title.
After Donald Trump imposed tariffs on India, China extended a hand of friendship to India, resulting in Narendra Modi visiting that country for the first time after the Galwan clash at the border.
Both countries are now making renewed efforts towards peace and cooperation. Against this backdrop, the Indian government does not want anything to jeopardise the status quo.
However, the director of “China Piece” is worried that any cuts or changes suggested may affect the heart of his film.
The screening has been scheduled for June 2, and Akki Vishwanath Reddy is keeping his fingers crossed.
