Megastar Chiranjeevi has stepped in to help resolve the long-pending dispute over the percentage-based revenue-sharing model for single-screen theatres.
A delegation comprising Telangana FDC Chairman Dil Raju, TFCC President Suresh Babu, producers K L Narayana and Allu Aravind, along with exhibitors’ representatives, met Chiranjeevi to discuss the issue.
After hearing all sides, Chiranjeevi stressed that any decision should safeguard the interests of producers, distributors, and exhibitors alike.
He also reiterated that the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce remains the industry’s apex body and expressed confidence in the committee currently studying the matter.
According to exhibitors, the debate over the percentage-sharing system has been dragging on for nearly a year. They claim that producers had earlier agreed to implement the model from Hari Hara Veera Mallu but later sought more time.
Exhibitors argue that whenever a major film approaches release, discussions are postponed and the decision is pushed further.
With Ram Charan’s Peddi being the last major Telugu release for the next few months before The Paradise arrives, exhibitors believe this is the ideal window to introduce the new system. They have been insisting that the percentage model should come into effect with Peddi.
Following the meeting, Dil Raju said Chiranjeevi listened patiently to the exhibitors’ concerns and assured them that the issue would be resolved through the Chamber-appointed committee.
The committee is expected to submit its recommendations by June 30, and an official announcement is likely soon.
Exhibitor representative Sridhar described the discussions as positive, saying Chiranjeevi understood the challenges faced by single-screen theatres, including financial pressure and theatre closures.
The exhibitors reportedly expressed satisfaction with the meeting and the assurance that efforts would be made to arrive at a fair solution for all stakeholders.
