This week witnessed several theatrical releases across industries, featuring promising stars, varied genres, and seemingly strong content.
However, the box office outcomes tell a very different story, with most films struggling to attract audiences despite favorable conditions like the summer holiday season.
Among the smaller releases, Gayapadda Simham and Jetlee, both comedy films, have performed poorly.
Collections in many centers are almost negligible. While Jetlee managed around Rs 2.2 Cr gross as per Sacnilk, the figures for Gayapadda Simham are not yet available and are expected to be even lower.
In the Hindi market, Ek Din opened to a disappointing response despite starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi.
Mounted on a budget of around Rs 150 crore, the film has failed to generate interest. By Day 2, it recorded a total India gross of Rs 2.57 crore, with overseas collections at Rs 0.25 crore, taking its worldwide gross to Rs 2.82 crore.
On a relatively better note, Raja Shivaji, directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh, is performing well in Marathi, though its Hindi version remains weak. By Day 2, the film has collected Rs 26.06 crore gross in India.
In Malayalam cinema, Patriot featuring Mammootty and Mohanlal opened strongly in Kerala but saw a drop on Day 2. The film has earned Rs 18.73 crore gross in India and Rs 18 crore overseas, totaling Rs 36.73 crore worldwide.
Meanwhile, the Tamil film Kara starring Dhanush is also struggling. By the end of Day 3, it has collected Rs 21.22 crore gross in India and Rs 5 crore overseas, taking its worldwide total to Rs 26.22 crore.
Overall, despite the advantage of the holiday season, box office collections across industries remain largely disappointing, with many films failing to generate even basic footfalls. Ticket sales on BookMyShow look extremely poor and underwhelming.
