“Peddi” currently carries massive hype among Telugu audiences across the two Telugu states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. However, the situation in North America appears far less encouraging at the moment.
The film’s premiere advance bookings have only just crossed the half-million-dollar mark, while industry expectations were aiming closer to the $3 million range for premieres alone.
Although the release is still a week away and there is hope for momentum to improve, the present pace remains slow.
Going by current trends, it would take a major turnaround for the film to reach that ambitious $3 million premiere target. But looking at the current pace, the trade circles say that it may land only in between $1.5 million to $2 million.
The film was reportedly sold at strong prices in overseas markets, and it is expected to require around $6 million in overall North American box office collections to achieve breakeven status.
Any revenue beyond that mark would translate into profits for distributors and exhibitors.
As things stand, the market response in North America remains underwhelming compared to the scale of expectations surrounding the project.
There is also growing discussion within trade circles about whether poor maneuvering by Mega fans has impacted the booking numbers, or if there are other factors behind the slow response. The exact reason, however, remains unclear at this stage.
It remains to be seen how the situation develops in the coming days and whether positive momentum can build ahead of release.
“Peddi” stars Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles, while the film is directed by Buchi Babu Sana. The film is hitting the screens on June 4.
