The ongoing controversy surrounding the percentage system in Telugu cinema exhibition is showing no signs of cooling down.
The latest developments indicate that Telangana exhibitors are firmly insisting on implementing the percentage-based revenue model from Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi.
Recently, reports emerged claiming that the Telugu Film Chamber had agreed to introduce an interim percentage system starting with Peddi. However, producer D Suresh Babu later denied that any such decision had been finalised.
Soon after the controversy intensified, Suniel Narang resigned from his post as chairman of the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce.
Industry circles believe he was facing mounting pressure from exhibitors who wanted the percentage system to be implemented immediately, beginning with Peddi.
On the other hand, a majority of producers are reportedly against rushing the decision. They prefer waiting for the recommendations of the newly formed committee, which is expected to submit its report within the next three months.
Meanwhile, Telangana exhibitors made their stand clear today, stating that Peddi would be screened in single-screen theatres only if the percentage system is implemented.
They also revealed that multiple rounds of discussions had already taken place with the Telugu Film Chamber regarding the issue.
With Peddi being one of the biggest upcoming Telugu releases, the dispute is now becoming a major concern for the industry.
If the issue remains unresolved, it could create complications for the film’s theatrical release and distribution plans.
