Toxic Day 7: Yash Film Continues to Struggle at Box Office

Yash’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, one of the most-awaited films of the year, continues to struggle at the box office after a strong opening weekend.

The film, which marked Yash’s return to the big screen after four years, was released on August 26. Despite the initial hype, Toxic opened to largely negative reviews and witnessed a sharp drop once the weekdays began.

On Day 7, Tuesday, the film showed a slight improvement and collected Rs 8.20 crore net in India. This represents a 7.2% growth compared with Monday’s Rs 7.65 crore.

Toxic registered 12,894 shows across the country on Tuesday. With this, its total India net collection has reached Rs 229.95 crore, while the India gross stands at Rs 272.80 crore.

Overseas, the film collected around Rs 1.50 crore on Day 7, taking its total international gross to Rs 40.75 crore.

The worldwide gross of Toxic now stands at Rs 313.55 crore.

However, the bigger concern for the film is its weak weekday trend. After suffering a major fall on Monday, Tuesday’s marginal growth offers little relief considering the film’s scale and expectations.

Interestingly, small-budget film Hanuman Ansh, now in its 26th day, is giving Toxic tough competition. The film reportedly collected around Rs 8 crore on Tuesday, almost matching Toxic despite being in theatres for nearly four weeks.

That comparison highlights the challenge facing Yash’s film as it tries to sustain momentum in the coming days.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic also stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria in prominent roles.

The film has also generated discussion for its intimate scenes and its portrayal of women through certain visuals and dialogues. It was cleared by the CBFC with an A certificate and reportedly without cuts.

With the worldwide total crossing Rs 300 crore but weekday collections remaining weak, Toxic now needs a significant turnaround in its second weekend to improve its box-office prospects.
