The English version of Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is finally set to release in India on September 4.
The film, directed by Geetu Mohandas, was released worldwide last week and received a lukewarm response. Though Toxic was shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, the English version was not released in Indian theatres along with the other language versions.
The makers have now confirmed that the English version will arrive in select theatres across India with a shorter runtime.
According to the announcement, the English cut is shorter than the versions released in Indian languages.
As per CBFC details, the Kannada version has a runtime of around 3 hours and 14 minutes, while the English version runs for approximately 2 hours and 56 minutes. Both versions have received an ‘A’ certificate.
Interestingly, the English version was released overseas along with the Kannada version, though its Indian release was delayed.
Bookings for the English version have reportedly opened in cities including Mumbai and Bengaluru.
The announcement has triggered mixed reactions on social media. While some fans are excited to watch the shorter English cut, others questioned why the version was not released in India from Day 1.
Some viewers also wondered whether the shorter version would address complaints about the film’s editing and lengthy runtime.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic is co-written and produced by Yash, who also plays the lead role.
The film also stars Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth in prominent roles.
