SS Rajamouli is reportedly planning a massive global release for Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
According to reports, the filmmaker wants to dub the film in nearly 50 languages and release it across around 120 countries.
What makes the plan more interesting is Rajamouli’s reported decision to use real dubbing artistes instead of AI-generated or synthetic voices.
For Rajamouli, dubbing is said to be more than simply translating dialogues. He reportedly wants the emotion, personality and impact of each character to remain intact in every language.
A source close to the production said Rajamouli does not want the performances to lose their emotional strength when the film is dubbed into other languages.
The team is reportedly planning to sample the voices of more than 1,500 artistes before selecting the final dubbing voices for different language versions.
Rajamouli had also recently dismissed claims that AI was used to create the film’s glimpse, calling such suggestions an insult to the work of the artistes and technicians involved.
The same approach is now reportedly being followed for dubbing as well, with the filmmaker preferring human voices over AI.
If the reported plan goes ahead, Varanasi could become one of the widest international releases for an Indian film.
