Varun Tej’s Korean Kanakaraju released today after paid premieres were held yesterday, and the team is pleased with the response.
The response on the opening day has also been encouraging, with hourly ticket sales reportedly witnessing a significant rise. The film has already sold more than 1 lakh tickets and is trending at the top on BookMyShow.
During the post-release press meet, director Merlapaka Gandhi expressed his happiness over the positive reception to Korean Kanakaraju, calling it the success he had been waiting for.
“I truly needed this hit. From day one, Varun Tej stood like the backbone of this film and supported it at every stage. After Venkatadri Express and Express Raja, I am once again experiencing audiences laughing their hearts out in theatres for this movie. That feeling is incredibly special. This is a film that perfectly suits Varun Tej’s screen presence. He performed both the Rayalaseema-based Kanakaraju and the Korean character brilliantly. The chemistry between Varun and Satya worked exceptionally well, while Ritika also delivered a wonderful performance,” he said.
Varun Tej thanked audiences for embracing the film beyond the team’s expectations.
“The response from the premiere shows has been phenomenal. We always believed that we had made a good film and expected a strong opening, but the reception has exceeded our expectations. Satya’s character has received tremendous appreciation, and we are confident that the collections will grow stronger in the coming days,” he said.
Addressing discussions surrounding the film’s imitation sequences, Varun clarified that they were created purely for entertainment.
“There is a clear difference between imitation and trolling. Great actors have always been imitated. Even in F3, we recreated Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab sequence purely for fun. We have also imitated big stars like Krishna and Chiranjeevi in a light-hearted manner. It was never intended to disrespect anyone. Everything was done with affection and in good spirit,” he said.
First Frame Entertainment’s Rajeev Reddy expressed his happiness over scoring a hit after nearly nine years.
Sirish remarked that it gave him immense happiness to have been associated with all of Varun Tej’s successful films.
