Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay’s wife Sangeetha recently withdrew the divorce petition she had filed before the Chengalpattu Family Court. Following her decision, the court reportedly closed the case.
But one question is creating a lot of curiosity in Tamil media circles: if Sangeetha had decided to separate from Vijay, why did she suddenly step back?
The petition was filed in the Chengalpattu Family Court because Vijay and Sangeetha’s residence at Neelankarai, on the outskirts of Chennai, falls under its jurisdiction.
Several reports had earlier claimed that Sangeetha was unhappy in the marriage and had raised personal grievances.
Some Tamil media reports also linked actress Trisha’s name to the marital dispute. However, these claims remain unverified and should be treated only as speculation unless confirmed by those involved.
There were also reports that Sangeetha had initially sought a major financial settlement and wanted Vijay to take responsibility for their children. Other reports claimed Vijay had agreed to take care of the children and had offered a lower settlement amount.
Then came a major political development — Vijay became Chief Minister.
One theory doing the rounds is that people close to both sides intervened and encouraged them to avoid a public divorce, as a high-profile family dispute could affect Vijay’s image as Chief Minister.
Another theory suggests that Sangeetha may have reconsidered the decision keeping the future of their children in mind.
However, the argument that she withdrew the case only for money does not sound convincing to many. Sangeetha reportedly comes from a wealthy business family and was financially well placed even before marrying Vijay. She had married him after falling in love with him, long before his present political stature.
So, what does withdrawal of the divorce petition really mean?
It does not necessarily mean that Vijay and Sangeetha have completely reconciled or returned to their earlier married life.
Reports had earlier claimed that Sangeetha had also sought the right to stay at Vijay’s residence, indicating that the dispute involved several complicated personal issues.
Meanwhile, speculation surrounding Vijay and Trisha continues in sections of Tamil media and social media. But there is no verified confirmation of the nature of their relationship, and claims suggesting an affair remain unproven.
One more unusual theory has also surfaced. According to this speculation, Sangeetha may have decided not to divorce Vijay because a divorce could allow him to legally remarry in the future.
Some commentators have even suggested that remaining legally married could prevent any alleged relationship from gaining official status.
But even this argument raises another question: if that was her intention from the beginning, why file for divorce at all?
For now, there is no clear answer.
Sangeetha has withdrawn the divorce petition, but the reasons behind her decision remain private. Until either Vijay or Sangeetha speaks openly about the matter, the real story behind the withdrawal will continue to remain a mystery.
