With Nani and Srikanth Odela’s The Paradise scheduled to hit screens on September 24, screenshots claiming to show the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) content advisory have gone viral on social media.
The screenshots describe strong violence, graphic injuries, torture, sexual references and sexual-threat material in the film.
According to the viral advisory, the film reportedly contains references to women having sex for money, while men are shown becoming aroused while watching a sensual dance.
One sequence reportedly shows a woman’s dress being forcibly ripped off in front of a crowd, while two women are threatened with being sold at an auction.
The advisory also reportedly mentions several scenes of brutal violence. Characters are said to be repeatedly punched, have their heads slammed, and be stabbed, impaled and slashed with blades.
Some torture sequences allegedly include hands being repeatedly struck with a blunt object.
Other graphic scenes reportedly involve exposed flesh, facial skin being ripped off, heads being pushed into ceiling fans, people being thrown onto sharp objects, brain matter and severed limbs.
Dismembered bodies and severe burn injuries are also reportedly shown.
One of the most disturbing descriptions in the viral advisory involves a pregnant woman being subjected to extreme violence, followed by a stillbirth sequence.
If these details are accurate, it remains to be seen how much of this material has been retained in the Indian theatrical version and how many scenes have been modified or removed.
The Paradise has received an A certificate from the CBFC. According to sources, the certification process involved several modifications, deletions and insertions.
The BBFC material should therefore be treated as an overseas content advisory, while the CBFC certificate and its reported changes relate specifically to the Indian theatrical release.
