Buchi Babu has directed only two films in the last five years, but both have featured a strikingly similar narrative device.
His debut film, "Uppena", revolved around a shocking twist in which the protagonist is brutally mutilated by the antagonist simply for falling in love with a girl from an upper caste family.
His second film, "Peddi", starring Ram Charan and currently running in its second week in theaters, also features a major twist involving the loss of a body part by the protagonist.
Not surprisingly, movie lovers have started jokingly referring to him as a "cutting-edge" director.
The jokes have even sparked speculation that the hero of his next film, whoever it may be, could end up losing a body part as well.
Of course, Buchi Babu has not even begun work on his next script, as he remains occupied with the post-release promotions of "Peddi".
However, if he intends to enjoy a long and successful career, he may need to diversify not only his genres but also move away from repeatedly relying on such "cutting" twists.
