A film like Peddi cannot release properly without single-screen theatres. Recently, the exhibitors’ press meet made it clear who controls most of these single screens.
At such a time, their warning that they would shut down single screens from next month has become a big blow to Peddi.
Producer Ravi Shankar also raised the same concern. He said they had spent heavily on the film and would face serious trouble if single-screen exhibitors created hurdles at this stage.
He made it clear that if the single-screen exhibitors do not soften their stand, they would take the issue to Chiranjeevi’s notice.
The industry has already not seen a proper success after the festival season. At such a time, if both sides stick to their egos over the percentage system, they may miss a good opportunity to make money.
The exhibitors’ committee and producers’ committee are expected to discuss the issue once again tomorrow. It remains to be seen what decision they will take.
