Laxmi Vara Prasad or LV Prasad as we all know him is actually Akkineni Laxmi Vara Prasad. This was his real name but over a period of time, his surname Akkineni somehow disappeared from his name and he simply became LV Prasad.

LV Prasad holds a unique distinction in the history of Indian cinema. He acted in the first talkie film to be produced in the country. The film is ‘Alam Ara’ in Hindi in 1931. LV Prasad also acted in the first talkie in Tamil – ‘Kalidas’ and also in the first talkie film in Telugu – ‘Bhaktaha Prahlada’ in 1931 again.

Despite his unsurpassable achievements, LV Prasad was a humble and modest person. He is well known as the founder of the world famous LV Prasad studios and LV Prasad labs. A hospital started by his family members, the LV Prasad Eye Institute is now a world-class eye care centre. A big chain of multiplexes is an offshoot of the Prasad labs.
