Thiruveer and Aishwarya Rajesh, both known for their strong acting abilities, have teamed up for the first time. Although the film’s trailer and promotional material failed to create much buzz, Oh Sukumari was the only notable Telugu release this weekend.
Does it offer anything worthwhile?
Story
Set in a village in Telangana, the story begins with Daamini’s childhood. Because of her unusual condition, she and her father keep moving from one village to another while trying to lead a normal life.
When Daamini, played by Aishwarya Rajesh, reaches marriageable age, her father becomes worried about finding a suitable groom because anyone who touches her receives an electric shock.
Things appear to fall into place when Yadagiri, played by Thiruveer, a wannabe politician, agrees to marry her. The wedding takes place without him knowing her secret. He discovers the truth only on their wedding night. What happens next forms the rest of the story.
Performances
Thiruveer is a capable actor, but he appears to be making questionable script choices lately. The film gives him very little opportunity to showcase his talent and restricts him to repetitive mannerisms and routine comedy.
Aishwarya Rajesh, who is usually dependable in performance-oriented roles, sincerely tries to hold the film together. However, the poorly written character gives her very little scope, making even her performance ineffective.
Vishnu Oi, who plays a wedding photographer, provides a few laughs and is the only actor who brings some energy to the proceedings.
Muralidhar Goud, Jhansi and Anand perform their respective roles adequately.
Technical Aspects
The film disappoints on almost every technical front.
The production values are extremely poor and make the film look like a low-budget short film. The cinematography lacks visual appeal, the music is instantly forgettable and the editing is messy instead of tightening the sluggish narrative.
The biggest drawback, however, is the writing. Both the screenplay and direction lack maturity, resulting in a film that rarely engages the audience.

Analysis
Oh Sukumari is one of those films likely to receive a unanimous verdict because it is simply that bad.
It is difficult to imagine anyone, perhaps even those who made it, enjoying the film. It is narrated in an amateurish manner, with a complete lack of convincing writing and storytelling skills. Combined with almost non-existent technical finesse, the film tests the audience’s patience from the opening scene until the very end.
Thiruveer earned recognition with films such as Masooda and The Great Pre-Wedding Show. Lately, however, he seems to be signing projects without giving enough thought to the story or presentation.
Aishwarya Rajesh, who is generally known for choosing content-driven films, also leaves one wondering how she agreed to be part of this project.
The debut director displays little command over either screenplay writing or direction. Apart from the single idea of the heroine’s electric-shock condition, the film offers no novelty or compelling reason for the audience to remain invested.
The first half revolves around the heroine’s condition, the hero’s naive decision to marry her and the pre-wedding episodes before ending with the wedding-night twist.
The second half shifts towards emotional drama and attempts to deliver a message about the importance of a joint family. Unfortunately, neither track works.
Filled with forced and silly comedy, the film repeatedly tries to generate laughs but rarely succeeds.
When a director lacks basic storytelling skills, the editor is expected to salvage the film through crisp pacing. Unfortunately, the editing only adds to the sluggishness, turning Oh Sukumari into an exhausting experience.
On the whole, Oh Sukumari is anything but pleasant despite its title. The film wastes its only interesting idea through amateurish filmmaking, poor writing and weak technical execution.
Bottom Line: So Boring
