Homosexuality and lesbianism are known to be very common even in the olden days but seen light off late. It may have been in practice but for most of the time, it remained in the closet. No one discussed about it in the fifties and sixties. But ‘Oke Raktam Oke Sparsha’, was almost the first Telugu novel on lesbianism written by Kommuri Venu Gopala Rao in 1960s.
Now lesbianism is very common. Many films have come based on this theme. People also discuss about it very openly. Some women are now staying together openly and quite a few have married their ‘partners’ too.
But as far as Tollywood is concerned, it was a hot topic of discussion in private circles in the early sixties. Two very famous actresses were said to have been involved in a lesbian relationship.
One was a big star actress with a big attitude. She was also a singer, director and a producer. The other lady was also a well-known actress of repute. She was a regular comedian cum lady villain in many films on par with Surya Kantham.
