Former ATA President Bhuvanesh Boojala transforming his native Village through service and compassion
Building a successful life in America is a remarkable achievement. Dedicating that success to the development of one's native village is even more extraordinary.
Many people speak fondly of their homeland. Some cherish memories of their roots. But only a rare few dedicate themselves to giving back to the soil that shaped them. One such inspiring individual is Bhuvanesh Boojala, former President of the American Telugu Association (ATA).
Though he lives thousands of miles away in Washington, D.C., his heart remains firmly connected to Gummadam village in Pebbair Mandal of Wanaparthy district, Telangana. Through the BSR Memorial Trust, established in memory of his late parents, he has been helping his native village.
Restoring Vision, Restoring Lives
Access to quality eye care remains a major challenge in many rural communities. Recognizing this need, Bhuvanesh Boojala partnered with the world-renowned Shankar Nethralaya to organize a prestigious Mega Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) Camp in Gummadam village.
Conducted over ten days from May 28 to June 6, the mega eye camp provided comprehensive eye examinations to 1,048 patients. Of them, 140 cataract surgeries were performed completely free of cost, restoring vision and hope to many elderly residents.
Going a step further, Boojala personally sponsored the travel and treatment through Shankar Netralaya of 160 patients requiring advanced eye care, sending them to Chennai for specialized surgeries.
The camp's state-of-the-art mobile surgical unit enabled high-quality procedures to be performed right within the village.
The emotional scenes of elderly beneficiaries seeing the world clearly again after years of impaired vision became a powerful testament to the impact of this humanitarian initiative.
Funds for the program were mobilized through Shankar Nethralaya USA, reflecting Boojala's commitment to channeling global resources toward local welfare.
He also expressed special gratitude to Bala Indurti, President of Shankar Nethralaya USA, and Neelima Gaddamanugu for coordinating the efforts in making the initiative a success.
Clean Drinking Water for a Healthier Future
Contaminated drinking water remains one of the leading causes of illness in rural India. Determined to address this issue permanently, Bhuvanesh Boojala, through the BSR Memorial Trust, established a free RO Mineral Water Plant in Gummadam village.
The initiative was inaugurated in the presence of former minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, who praised the project as a shining example of genuine public service aimed at safeguarding community health.
Bringing Corporate-Level Facilities to a Government School
Bhuvanesh Boojala firmly believes that children born in villages deserve the same opportunities as those in cities.
Guided by this vision, the BSR Memorial Trust has undertaken extensive development works at the ZPHS, Gummadam.
The school buildings were renovated and repainted, two new bathrooms, iron-grilled doors, Computers/Printer, giving the campus a modern and vibrant appearance comparable to many private institutions.
Nearly 1,000 feet of compound wall was strengthened, and a new main entrance gate was constructed.
Teachers say these improvements have significantly boosted students' confidence and strengthened public trust in the government education system.
Loving one's homeland is not about words—it is about action. And Bhuvanesh Boojala is an example of that philosophy in practice.
