AP Debt Rises by Rs 1.50 Lakh Crore in Two Years

Andhra Pradesh’s outstanding public debt has risen to Rs 6,45,461 crore, according to the 2026 Budget Estimates, marking an increase of more than Rs 1.50 lakh crore over the past two years, the Union government informed the Rajya Sabha.

Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary disclosed the figures in a written reply to a question raised by Congress MP Vivek Tankha on the debt position of various states.

According to the data placed before Parliament, Andhra Pradesh’s debt stood at Rs 4,92,568 crore in 2024. It increased to Rs 5,65,534 crore in 2025 and is estimated to reach Rs 6,45,461 crore in 2026.

The figures indicate debt growth of 14.81 per cent between 2024 and 2025 and 14.13 per cent between 2025 and 2026.

The Union minister also presented the state’s Gross State Domestic Product figures.

Andhra Pradesh’s GSDP increased from Rs 14,23,900 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 15,91,226 crore in 2024-25 and further to Rs 17,62,357 crore in 2025-26. This reflects growth rates of 11.75 per cent and 10.75 per cent, respectively.

Per capita income also registered steady growth, rising from Rs 2,39,311 in 2023-24 to Rs 2,66,699 in 2024-25 and Rs 2,94,507 in 2025-26.

These figures represent annual increases of 11.44 per cent and 10.42 per cent, the minister informed the Upper House.
