Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu has announced that he will retire from active electoral politics and will not contest the next elections, citing his age as the reason for the decision.

Ayyanna Patrudu made the announcement on his birthday. Speaking on the occasion, he said he intends to spend the remaining three years of his current tenure focusing on development and public service rather than preparing for another electoral contest.

“I am going to retire from politics. Therefore, there will not be an opportunity to do anything after that. I want to focus on completing the works during the remaining three years of my term,” he said.

As part of his birthday celebrations, Ayyanna Patrudu inaugurated a blood donation camp at the Narsipatnam Area Hospital.

He said blood donation camps had been organised on his birthday for the past 31 years and that around 36,000 people had donated blood through these initiatives so far.

Meanwhile, a BC Unity Forum conference is scheduled to be held in Narsipatnam on September 6 under the leadership of TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao and MP Chintakayala Vijay.

TDP leaders said the coalition government had provided 34 per cent reservation for BCs with the objective of helping them make progress in education, employment and politics.

They alleged that while the state government was examining reservations for BCs based on current population figures, the YSR Congress Party was trying to politicise the issue.

TDP leaders accused the YSRCP of attempting to deny BCs political representation and appealed to members of the community to participate in the BC Unity Forum conference to counter what they described as such efforts.
