Police in Kurnool on Wednesday registered a case against YSR Congress Party leader Byreddy Siddharth Reddy following a complaint lodged by Andhra Pradesh Industries Minister T G Bharath.
Kurnool Town-III Circle Inspector Sheshaiah said the case was registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on the minister’s complaint.
The controversy stems from remarks made by Siddharth Reddy during a YSRCP protest held at the Kurnool Collectorate on May 14.
Addressing party workers, he accused Minister T G Bharath of allegedly accepting a Rs 45 crore bribe from a pharmaceutical company.
The YSRCP leader also made several sharp comments targeting the minister and his family, triggering strong reactions from the ruling establishment.
Siddharth Reddy alleged that Bharath was rewarding individuals who criticised him politically.
He also accused the minister of misusing his influence and made remarks related to the family of a man named Satish, who had allegedly died by suicide.
He additionally criticised Bharath’s father and senior leader T G Venkatesh, accusing him of arrogance and indirectly challenging political rivals through provocative comments.
Bharath approached the police, alleging that Siddharth Reddy had made defamatory and provocative remarks intended to damage his reputation and create public hostility against him and his family members.
The minister also announced plans to file a defamation suit.
