Vijayawada police have reportedly decided to open rowdy sheets against 51 people accused in the 2021 attack on the Telugu Desam Party’s central office at Mangalagiri, as well as those allegedly involved in the recent violence at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh office.
Police have intensified action against individuals allegedly linked to the violent incidents. According to police sources, Vijayawada Police Commissioner S V Rajasekhar Babu has directed officials to initiate the process against the 51 accused.
The list reportedly includes several prominent YSR Congress Party leaders, including Devineni Avinash and Talasila Raghuram.
The recent violence and alleged attacks at the SAAP office in Vijayawada are said to have prompted the police department to step up action.
The government has reportedly taken a serious view of the incident and directed police to initiate stringent action against those found responsible.
The 2021 attack on the TDP central office in Mangalagiri took place when the YSRCP was in power and triggered a major political controversy. After the coalition government came to power, the case was taken up for further investigation.
Police have now reportedly decided to proceed with rowdy sheets against 51 accused in the case.
Meanwhile, investigators are examining CCTV footage, social media posts, photographs and videos circulated by television channels and other media outlets in connection with the recent SAAP office incident.
Police have reportedly identified around 260 people in connection with the incident. Of them, 45 are said to already have rowdy sheets, while 71 have been identified as troublemakers. Another 46 have reportedly been classified as active political workers.
Police have also identified nine individuals with peace-and-order suspect sheets, seven with crime suspect sheets and six with other types of suspect sheets. Details of another 76 people are reportedly being collected.
Among those identified are eight sitting MLAs, five former MLAs, three former ministers and four individuals who currently hold or previously held positions as mayors, former mayors or deputy mayors.
Police have already arrested several people in connection with the incident, while investigations into the remaining suspects are continuing.
