A special court in Rajamahendravaram on Wednesday cancelled the bail earlier granted by the Supreme Court to YSR Congress Party leader and MLC Ananta Udaya Bhaskar, alias Ananta Babu, in the sensational murder case of his former driver Veedhi Subrahmanyam in 2021.
The court took serious note of allegations that the accused had attempted to influence and threaten witnesses while out on bail.
According to the prosecution, Ananta Babu allegedly intimidated four witnesses connected to the case and warned them of dire consequences if they failed to depose in his favour.
Based on complaints lodged by the victims, Sarpavaram police in Kakinada district arrested the YSRCP MLC on April 24. He is currently lodged in Rajamahendravaram Central Jail as a remand prisoner.
The court observed that threatening witnesses while on bail in a murder case was a grave violation.
After examining the evidence placed before it, the special court concluded that the allegations were substantiated and ordered the cancellation of bail.
Special Public Prosecutor Muppalla Subba Rao argued the case on behalf of the police department.
With the cancellation of bail, Ananta Babu is expected to remain in jail until the completion of the murder trial.
The court also announced that regular trial proceedings in the driver Subrahmanyam murder case will commence on May 20.
