The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday rejected a plea filed by the YSR Congress Party seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in the Mega DSC-2025 teacher recruitment process.
The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by YSRCP MLC Parvatha Reddy Chandrasekhar Reddy, who sought a CBI investigation into the recruitment exercise, particularly the appointments made under the sports quota.
During the hearing, the High Court questioned why candidates who were allegedly affected by the sports quota recruitment process had not approached the court directly. Counsel for the petitioner argued that the aggrieved candidates were afraid to seek legal recourse.
The bench, however, said it was not convinced by the argument. It observed that allowing PILs to be used for political purposes would undermine the very objective of public interest litigation.
The High Court also noted that as many as 335 petitions challenging the Mega DSC-2025 notification and recruitment process had already been filed by individual candidates.
Considering the availability of direct legal remedies, the court asked whether the petitioner wished to continue pursuing the PIL or withdraw it. It directed the petitioner’s counsel to obtain instructions from the client.
The YSRCP has alleged large-scale irregularities in the recruitment process and demanded a CBI investigation. The party has also organised protests across Andhra Pradesh, accusing the government of manipulating appointments under the sports quota.
YSRCP president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has repeatedly alleged that deserving candidates were denied appointments because of irregularities in the sports quota selection process.
Several candidates had earlier met Jagan and complained about the alleged anomalies, following which he assured them of legal assistance.
The opposition party has also demanded the resignation of Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh, holding him responsible for the alleged irregularities.
The coalition government, however, has consistently rejected the allegations, maintaining that the Mega DSC-2025 recruitment process was conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
School Education Department officials have also addressed the media to clarify doubts raised by candidates and denied allegations of malpractice.
