The YSR Congress Party has suffered a major setback in Vizianagaram district, with party district president and former minister Botsa Satyanarayana’s nephew, Majji Srinivasa Rao, also known as Chinna Srinu, resigning from the party.
He has also stepped down as the party’s coordinator for the Bheemili Assembly constituency. Majji Srinu had earlier served as the Chairman of the Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad. He has sent his resignation letter to Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
There have reportedly been serious differences between former minister Botsa Satyanarayana and his nephew Majji Srinu for some time. Those differences are now believed to have reached a point where Srinu decided to quit the YSRCP.
Majji Srinu grew politically with the support of Botsa Satyanarayana and had long worked closely with him. He rose step by step in politics under Botsa’s guidance.
Y S Jagan had also given Majji Srinu considerable importance in the party. He was entrusted with responsibilities as Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad Chairman, YSRCP district president and Bheemili constituency coordinator.
However, Srinu is said to have become increasingly unhappy in recent times, reportedly feeling that his uncle Botsa Satyanarayana was becoming an obstacle to his further political growth.
Political rivals are also said to have sensed this dissatisfaction and made efforts to attract him.
The latest trigger appears to have been Botsa Satyanarayana’s recent announcement that he would field his daughter for the Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad Chairperson post. This is believed to have further upset Majji Srinu and deepened his doubts about his future in the YSRCP.
Eventually, he decided to leave the party.
Majji Srinu’s exit is being seen as a political setback for the YSRCP in Vizianagaram, one of the party’s stronger districts in North Andhra.
The real extent of the damage, however, will become clear only with time. It remains to be seen how the YSRCP will fill the political vacuum created by Majji Srinu’s departure.
