Jagan Joining Hands With CPI, Congress? Sai Reddy Targets Sajjala

The latest meeting between Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders and YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has triggered speculation over possible changes in Andhra Pradesh’s opposition equations ahead of future elections.

A CPI delegation led by state secretary G Eswaraiah and senior leader K Ramakrishna met Jagan at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli on Thursday and discussed joint struggles on public issues. YSRCP state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy was also present.

The CPI leaders invited the YSRCP to participate in a round-table conference on drought conditions and farmers’ problems in Vijayawada on September 26.

The discussions also covered agricultural distress, electoral-roll issues and the alleged irregularities in the DSC recruitment process. Eswaraiah later said Jagan had responded positively to joining public struggles on issues affecting people.

Interestingly, the CPI delegation also met Andhra Pradesh Congress leaders and invited them to the same round-table conference. The CPI and Congress leaders reportedly discussed agricultural issues, electoral-roll concerns and future coordination on public campaigns.

This has led to political speculation over whether the YSRCP could increasingly coordinate with the CPI and other opposition parties on common issues.

However, there is so far no indication of any electoral alliance between the YSRCP, CPI and Congress. The present discussions are centred on issue-based protests and public campaigns.

Former Rajya Sabha member V Vijaya Sai Reddy also entered the debate, questioning the political implications of the YSRCP working alongside the CPI, which is part of the Congress-led INDIA bloc.

In his social-media post, Sai Reddy referred to reports that the YSRCP and CPI had agreed to undertake joint struggles on public issues and questioned what such a move could mean politically.

He also made an indirect reference to Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, appearing to question his role in the latest political coordination.

Sai Reddy’s comments have added another layer to the debate, especially because the YSRCP has traditionally preferred to contest elections independently rather than enter formal alliances.

For now, the Jagan-CPI meeting appears to be focused on issue-based cooperation. Whether it develops into a broader political understanding involving the CPI, Congress or other opposition parties remains to be seen.
