YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday accused the Chandrababu Naidu government of deliberately humiliating him during his visit to the Kurnool district jail.
Jagan, who was visiting Kurnool district, went to the jail to meet YSRCP MLA Virupakshi, who is currently lodged there. However, an incident during the visit reportedly upset the former chief minister, following which he launched a sharp attack on Chandrababu Naidu.
Speaking to the media after coming out of the jail, Jagan said he had been treated disrespectfully despite being a former chief minister of the state.
Jagan said he had assumed that, as part of the procedure for allowing visitors into the jail, he would be taken inside, made to sit and photographed.
Instead, he alleged that he was made to stand outside the grill and photographed before being sent back.
“I am a former chief minister, and I was insulted,” Jagan said, alleging that the manner in which he was treated reflected what he described as Chandrababu Naidu’s “sadistic mindset.”
According to Jagan, he questioned the jail officials about whether all visitors were treated in the same manner and photographed while standing outside the grill.
He said the officials told him that they had received instructions from higher authorities to photograph him in that manner.
Jagan said the incident was particularly objectionable because, during his tenure as chief minister, his government had introduced what he described as “people-friendly police stations.”
He recalled that people visiting police stations to lodge complaints were provided seating and treated courteously while their grievances were received.
“In our government, we established people-friendly police stations. Anyone who came to a police station to lodge a complaint was made to sit and their complaint was received with a smile,” Jagan said.
He alleged that the treatment given to him at the jail was intended to humiliate him.
Jagan also warned the Chandrababu Naidu government that no government would remain in power permanently and that those who introduced what he called wrong practices could eventually face the same consequences.
“You will not remain in power forever. The seeds you sow today will bear fruit tomorrow,” he warned.
Jagan said the practices being introduced by the present government could eventually come back to haunt those responsible for them.
He also referred to the tenure of the current government, saying that two years had already passed and that the remaining three years would also pass quickly.
