YSRCP president and former CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday launched a blistering attack on CM Chandrababu Naidu and the ruling TDP-led coalition government, accusing it of massive corruption in the Amaravati capital project and misleading the public over its financing.
Addressing his routine monthly press conference at his Tadepalli camp office, Jagan alleged that Chandrababu Naidu was using the Amaravati project primarily as a vehicle for financial scams, while falsely projecting it as a “self-financing project.”
According to Jagan, loans and commitments linked to Amaravati have already crossed Rs 47,387 crore, while another Rs 9,200 crore is being spent directly from the state treasury.
As an alternative, Jagan defended the “Mavigun” regional capital corridor concept proposed by the YSRCP. He described it as the “most practical” solution, considering Andhra Pradesh’s economic realities and existing infrastructure.
He argued that the proposed region already has major infrastructure facilities, including Machilipatnam Port, Vijayawada International Airport, three railway stations, four national highways, several universities, educational institutions, and nine government and private medical colleges.
He also claimed that the region already supports a population of nearly 35 to 40 lakh, unlike Amaravati, which he described as a “greenfield project starting from zero.”
Jagan further alleged that the Amaravati land pooling and returnable plots system disproportionately favoured politically connected individuals and business interests.
He named several influential individuals and alleged that prime returnable plots along key roads were allotted to Chandrababu Naidu’s associates and benamis, while ordinary farmers were given less valuable land parcels in water bodies and low-lying areas.
The former chief minister also accused the government of deliberately diverting public attention from the “Mavigun” proposal through politically motivated controversies and fabricated narratives against the YSRCP.
Jagan alleged that the ruling dispensation, aided by what he called the “yellow media ecosystem,” was trying to portray the YSR Congress Party as a villain in order to divert public attention from governance failures.
He also referred extensively to recent allegations of political violence and the murder of a YSRCP functionary in Kadapa district.
He alleged that the government was trying to falsely implicate his party for political gain, despite statements from the victim’s family denying any political rivalry.
The YSRCP chief alleged that it was during the TDP regime that members of his own family were assassinated, including his grandfather Y S Raja Reddy and uncle Y S Vivekananda Reddy.
“I have doubts over the death of my father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash,” he said.
Jagan accused Chandrababu Naidu of practising “conspiracy politics,” “backstabbing politics,” and encouraging a culture of violence for political gain.
He also referred to the political ouster of former chief minister N T Rama Rao, accusing Chandrababu Naidu of betraying his father-in-law to capture power.
Jagan claimed that the YSRCP believed in politics based on credibility and public welfare, not conspiracies and violence.
He concluded by accusing Chandrababu Naidu of continuing “petty politics” even at the age of 77, and questioned whether such political conduct was appropriate at this stage of his career.
