YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday issued orders suspending Repalle Assembly constituency leader Mopidevi Srinivasa Rao from the party, citing allegations of anti-party activities.
According to the YSRCP central office, the suspension was ordered on the recommendation of the party’s disciplinary committee. Interestingly, Mopidevi Srinivasa Rao had joined the YSRCP only about five months ago.
The party said it had received complaints against him alleging anti-party activities and that the disciplinary committee examined the matter before recommending action.
Mopidevi Srinivasa Rao, who was previously associated with the Congress in Repalle, joined the YSRCP in May this year in the presence of Jagan Mohan Reddy. Several of his followers also joined the party along with him.
At the time of his induction, Jagan reportedly asked Srinivasa Rao to work towards strengthening the party in the Repalle constituency.
He also assured him that his contribution would be suitably recognised and asked him to support the then constituency in-charge, Peeta Naga Mohan Krishna.
Jagan had reportedly asked Srinivasa Rao to take responsibility for improving the party’s prospects in Repalle and indicated that he would be given an opportunity in the legislature.
However, the political equation changed within five months, culminating in the YSRCP’s decision to suspend him.
According to reports, complaints reached the YSRCP leadership alleging that Srinivasa Rao had been trying to run a separate political group within the Repalle constituency.
There were also allegations that he had been projecting himself as the party’s future Assembly candidate from Repalle.
These allegations are being cited within party circles as a possible reason for the disciplinary action, although the YSRCP’s formal statement referred only to complaints of anti-party activities and the recommendation of its disciplinary committee.
The suspension also comes against the backdrop of another political development in the constituency.
Around two months ago, prominent Kapu leader and former TDP leader Goodapati Srinivasa Rao joined the YSRCP in the presence of Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Jagan welcomed him into the party and expressed confidence that his entry would strengthen the YSRCP in Repalle.
He reportedly asked Goodapati Srinivasa Rao to work with constituency in-charge Peeta Naga Mohan Krishna and contribute to the party’s efforts in future elections.
