The opposition YSR Congress Party appears determined to pursue the sensational Gade Sai Krishna lock-up death case in Vijayawada, alleging that it reflects the deterioration of law and order in Andhra Pradesh.
While seeking to move an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha for a debate on the alleged law-and-order failure in the state, YSRCP MP Maddila Gurumoorthy also filed a petition before a Vijayawada court seeking to include Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta, Vijayawada Police Commissioner S V Rajasekhar Babu and South Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police M. Manasa as accused in the case.
The petition was filed on Tuesday before the II Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Vijayawada by senior advocate Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy on behalf of Gurumoorthy.
In the petition, the MP requested the court to name the DGP as Accused No. 1, the Police Commissioner as Accused No. 2 and the ACP as Accused No. 3.
The petition alleged that the senior police officials were fully aware of the sequence of events from the time Sai Krishna was reportedly taken into custody until he went missing and was later found dead.
According to the petition, Sai Krishna was taken into custody at Markapur on May 6 by a task force team functioning under the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate.
The petitioner argued that the Vijayawada Police Task Force functions directly under the supervision of the Police Commissioner and that it would therefore be difficult to claim that the Commissioner was unaware of the arrest.
On this basis, the court was requested to include the senior police officials as accused in the case.
The private complaint was filed even as the Special Investigation Team, which was recently constituted to reinvestigate the case, intensified its probe.
As part of the fresh investigation, a three-member SIT team visited the residence of Sai Krishna’s mother, Vijayalakshmi, in Krishnalanka and reportedly spent around 30 minutes collecting information related to the case.
Meanwhile, separate petitions filed by Vijayalakshmi seeking a judicial inquiry into her son’s death and raising concerns about the maintenance of the CCTV surveillance system were adjourned.
The court posted the matter for further hearing on August 10.
