Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y S Sharmila Reddy on Tuesday strongly denied reports and social media speculation that she had secretly met her brother and YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy as part of a political understanding or that she was planning to return to the YSRCP.
In a post on X, Sharmila described the reports and analyses circulating on social media as “fabricated stories” and “completely baseless.”
She said the speculation was entirely false and condemned what she termed “meaningless allegations” being spread by people opposed to her.
Sharmila said she had last met Jagan when she invited him to the wedding of her son, Y S Raja Reddy. She clarified that if she were to meet him again, it would only be to personally hand over the wedding invitation for her daughter, Y S Anjali Reddy.
Anjali Reddy is set to marry Dr Somala Raghuram Reddy, and Sharmila had earlier announced the alliance publicly. She recently announced that the engagement would take place on September 24, followed by the wedding on November 25.
Sharmila said she would invite the heads of all political parties to her daughter’s wedding and seek their blessings, describing it as a normal family tradition with nothing unusual about it.
“I will invite the leaders of all political parties to attend my child’s wedding and bless the couple. There is nothing new or strange about this,” she said.
She further rejected reports that she could use her daughter’s wedding as a platform for backroom political negotiations.
“As a daughter of YSR, I do not have the misfortune of using my daughter’s wedding to engage in politics behind the scenes,” Sharmila said.
She warned that she would not remain silent if attempts were made to link a family function with politics in a manner that damaged her political credibility, integrity or the trust people had placed in her.
Sharmila also appealed to Telugu people to bless her daughter Anjali Reddy and her fiancé Somala Raghuram Reddy as they prepare to begin their married life.
