Jana Sena Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan reiterated his commitment to continuing a strong alliance with the Telugu Desam Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party, while ensuring that the dignity of the Jana Sena Party is protected.
He made this clear at a party meeting in Pithapuram on Monday, where he stressed that the alliance should remain strong for many more years, while also safeguarding the respect and dignity of all partners, including Jana Sena.
Pawan Kalyan said he wanted the coalition government to remain strong and expressed his desire for the three parties to continue working together in the future.
“At the same time, such cooperation should not come at the cost of the respect or dignity of any partner,” he said.
Pawan Kalyan said the immediate priority should be to address the basic needs of the people before focusing on political aspirations and other demands.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of some party leaders, saying that some had become less active after the coalition came to power. He said he knew what needed to be done to ensure that party leaders did not become complacent and indicated that he would personally intervene to streamline the party’s functioning in the constituency.
He also said officials had been asked to consider setting up his camp office in Pithapuram, which would enable him to maintain closer contact with the constituency and oversee developments more directly.
The Jana Sena chief said he would provide direction to party leaders and suggest ways to strengthen the organisation and take it forward.
His remarks assume significance as the coalition partners prepare for the upcoming local body elections. Jana Sena has already stepped up preparations, with its leadership asking the cadre to focus on municipal and urban local body elections.
The party leadership has also asked local leaders to assess Jana Sena’s strengths and weaknesses at the ward and division levels. State-level coordination among the alliance partners is also under way.
So far, Jana Sena and the Telugu Desam Party have not publicly announced a final seat-sharing formula for the local body elections.
Jana Sena leaders have said that decisions will be taken after assessing ground-level conditions and consulting the alliance partners.
Pawan Kalyan’s call to maintain the party’s strong electoral performance has also drawn attention. Jana Sena won all 21 Assembly constituencies it contested in the 2024 elections, giving the party a 100 per cent strike rate.
The precise formula for seat-sharing in the forthcoming local elections, however, is yet to be officially announced by the coalition partners.
Until such an announcement is made, the extent of Jana Sena’s participation in different local bodies and the number of seats it may seek will remain unclear.
