As expected, Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad has received a six-month extension of service following approval from the Central government.
The extension will come into effect on June 1, 2026, and continue until November 30, 2026, according to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India.
A 1991-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, Sai Prasad was due to retire on May 31 after attaining the age of superannuation.
However, following a formal proposal submitted by the Andhra Pradesh government, the Centre cleared the continuation of his services in the state’s top bureaucratic post for an additional six months.
The approval was granted under Rule 16(1) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, which empowers the Central government to extend the service of an All India Services officer in public interest under special circumstances.
The latest extension comes close on the heels of a similar extension given to Sai Prasad’s predecessor, K Vijayanand.
In November 2025, the Chandrababu Naidu-led government had secured a three-month extension for Vijayanand from December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, to ensure administrative continuity and facilitate a smooth transition in the state’s top bureaucracy.
Before becoming Chief Secretary, G Sai Prasad served as Special Chief Secretary in the Water Resources Department and also functioned as Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister.
He is considered a key bureaucrat in the Chandrababu Naidu administration and has handled several crucial portfolios during his career.
