A day after former Rajya Sabha member V Vijaya Sai Reddy released an open letter sharply attacking the YSR Congress Party in general and its State coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy in particular, he came under fire from the Sajjala camp.
YSRCP leaders, including Nagarjuna Yadav, hit back at Sai Reddy for describing party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as No. 2 in the party while alleging that Sajjala was functioning as the de facto No. 1.
In a post on social media, Nagarjuna Yadav accused Sai Reddy of trying to create confusion instead of answering fundamental questions about his political association with Jagan Mohan Reddy.
He asked the former MP to introspect on why he had lost Jagan’s confidence, why he ultimately resigned from the party, and why he gave up a Rajya Sabha term that still had four years remaining.
Yadav also questioned why Sai Reddy chose to distance himself from the Jagan family despite receiving several prominent positions during his association with the YSRCP.
He recalled that Sai Reddy had served as a member of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Board, director of Oriental Bank of Commerce, twice as a Rajya Sabha member, YSRCP regional coordinator for North Andhra, and as the Andhra Pradesh government’s Special Representative in New Delhi.
“He was also given an opportunity to serve as a director of the Reserve Bank of India. So, he should explain why he felt ignored in the party,” the YSRCP leader said.
Yadav asked why Sai Reddy had concluded that Jagan would never trust him again. He also took exception to the allegations regarding the functioning of the YSRCP and its leadership.
“Jagan remains the central figure in the party, and no individual leader, including Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, has independent control over the organisation,” he said.
Yadav also rejected Sai Reddy’s allegations about a so-called “coterie” within the party, arguing that all leaders and workers are expected to set aside personal preferences in the larger interest of the organisation.
“In fact, Sajjala did not enjoy the kind of positions Sai Reddy held, including two terms in the Rajya Sabha,” he said.
He also sought to know why Sai Reddy, who claimed that he was made Accused No. 5 in the liquor scam, was not arrested and what role he had played as an alleged whistleblower in what he described as a politically manufactured liquor case.
Questions were also raised about the share-transfer controversy involving Kakinada Seaports Limited, including allegations made by its former managing director K.V. Rao and subsequent developments in the case.
Yadav further questioned Sai Reddy over his alleged association with Adan Distilleries and asked why he had allegedly provided his villa to TDP leader and former MP Raghurama Krishna Raju, who had earlier criticised Adan Distilleries as a shell company.
He also asked why the Special Investigation Team had not investigated Adan Distilleries if the allegations previously made by TDP leaders against the company were genuine.
On Sai Reddy’s allegation that he was physically assaulted by Sajjala during the YSRCP plenary in 2022, Yadav pointed out that Sai Reddy had moved a resolution at the same plenary seeking to make Jagan the permanent president of the YSRCP.
“After the so-called incident, Jagan nominated him to the Rajya Sabha for a second time. Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy was also among those who proposed his nomination,” Yadav said.
He concluded that the party’s core political equation remains “Jagan, people and cadre,” and that those who believe in that structure continue to work within the YSRCP, while those who do not eventually distance themselves from the party.
