With the deadline for local body elections in Andhra Pradesh approaching, the ruling Telugu Desam-Jana Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (TDP-Jana Sena-BJP) coalition is gearing up to work out a seat-sharing formula.
According to sources, the coalition partners are preparing strategies to retain the political advantage they secured in the Assembly elections.
TDP president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena Party chief and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan have begun internal discussions within their respective parties on the seat-sharing issue.
As part of its preparations, the Jana Sena Party has called an interaction meeting of its leaders and election aspirants. The meeting will be held in Mangalagiri at 4 pm on Friday.
Ministers, party MPs, MLCs, MLAs, chairpersons of various corporations and Jana Sena candidates who contested the 2019 general elections are expected to attend. Those who contested the 2021 local body elections on behalf of the party will also participate.
The meeting will discuss preparations for the local body elections in accordance with the guidelines issued by Pawan Kalyan.
Jana Sena Political Affairs Committee chairman and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar will preside over the meeting.
Subsequently, the 14-member committee constituted to work out the modalities for the local body elections will also meet.
Meanwhile, Nagababu is scheduled to take oath as chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Andhra Pradesh Society for Greening and Reforestation for Ecological Enrichment on the same day.
As Pawan Kalyan will not be available, Nagababu has decided to keep the swearing-in ceremony a low-key affair. Only family members, close associates and a few well-wishers are expected to attend.
Nagababu has appealed to party leaders, workers and fans not to attend the programme specially for the occasion.
