YSR Congress Party leader and former Andhra Pradesh minister Dr Seediri Appalaraju on Friday got much-needed relief from the court in connection with a hit-and-run case registered against his son Arav Varma in Kasibugga, Srikakulam district.
The Sompeta court granted him conditional bail after he spent 23 days in judicial remand at the Srikakulam district jail in Ampolu. Following the court’s order, he is expected to be released from jail shortly, subject to compliance with the conditions imposed by the court.
The case relates to a road accident reported within the limits of the Kasibugga police station, in which a shepherd identified as Danaiah was reportedly killed on the spot.
During the investigation, police examined the alleged involvement of the former minister’s son Arav in the accident. Police subsequently accused Appalaraju of misusing his position and authority in an alleged attempt to divert the investigation and tamper with evidence related to the case.
Based on these allegations, Kasibugga police registered a case against Appalaraju and arrested him. He was subsequently produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody. He was then lodged in the Srikakulam district jail at Ampolu.
Appalaraju’s legal team later approached the Sompeta court seeking bail. His earlier bail applications were reportedly rejected.
After hearing detailed arguments from both sides, the court considered the submissions and granted Appalaraju conditional bail.
The order has provided significant relief to the former minister, who had remained in judicial custody for 23 days.
