The ruling alliance partners - the Telugu Desam Party, Jana Sena Party and Bharatiya Janata Party in Andhra Pradesh have admitted that communication gaps exist among them, particularly at the grassroots level, and have decided to strengthen coordination.
At a state-level coordination committee meeting held in Tadepalli on Wednesday, the alliance leaders resolved to establish a strong coordination mechanism and prepare a joint strategy to ensure the alliance’s victory in the upcoming local body elections.
The meeting was held at the residence of TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao.
It was attended by Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu, representing the TDP; Jana Sena Minister Nadendla Manohar and MLC Pidugu Hariprasad; BJP state president P. V. N. Madhav; and Minister Satya Kumar Yadav.
The leaders decided to immediately complete the formation of NDA coordination committees for all Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies and formally announce them by Monday.
Under the proposed structure, each Lok Sabha-level committee will include the Member of Parliament, the district presidents of the three alliance parties, all MLAs from the seven Assembly constituencies under the parliamentary segment, the constituency in-charges of the other two alliance partners and MLCs.
At the Assembly constituency level, each committee will include the local MLA, the constituency in-charges of the other two alliance parties and the mandal presidents of all three parties.
The alliance also resolved that coordination committees at the state, parliamentary and Assembly constituency levels should meet once every two weeks to improve communication and ensure the effective implementation of joint programmes.
With elections to municipal corporations and municipalities expected to be held first, the leaders decided to give special attention to urban local bodies falling under each Assembly constituency.
The meeting also called for the immediate filling of pending nominated posts in market yard committees and temple management committees.
A detailed discussion was held on reports of dissatisfaction among some grassroots workers, who reportedly feel that they have not benefited despite the coalition completing two years in office.
Several leaders stressed the need to reassure the cadre that the government is committed to “political governance” and that deserving party workers will receive appropriate recognition.
The alliance leaders also discussed what they described as the aggressive behaviour of YSR Congress Party leaders and workers, including provocative statements that allegedly incited violence.
They felt that the government’s restraint was being misinterpreted as weakness and favoured adopting a tougher approach against what they described as “destructive forces.”
