Former Rajya Sabha member V Vijaya Sai Reddy strongly feels there is a need for a credible third alternative in Andhra Pradesh, similar to Tamil Nadu, where actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as a major political force by challenging the decades-long dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.
According to Sai Reddy, Andhra Pradesh politics is trapped between two extremes represented by the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Congress Party.
He believes the state needs a credible third alternative that can balance development and welfare.
“AP’s politics is stuck between two extremes; TDP’s urban-centric outlook that ignores rural areas and YSRCP’s welfare-only approach with no vision for growth. What AP needs is a credible third alternative, one that brings parity between development and welfare, attracts foreign direct investment and ensures its benefits reach every part of the state,” the former MP said in his latest post on X.
In his post, Sai Reddy suggested that a new political force should combine the positive elements of both the TDP and the YSRCP.
He said such a force should focus on attracting foreign direct investment, promoting economic growth and ensuring that the benefits of development reach all sections of society.
Interestingly, while tagging both the TDP and the YSRCP in his social media post, Sai Reddy conveniently ignored the Jana Sena Party headed by popular actor Pawan Kalyan, who once projected his party as a third alternative in Andhra Pradesh politics.
At present, Jana Sena is an ally of the ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh and is playing second fiddle to the TDP.
In the current political context, it is seen more as part of the ruling dispensation than as an independent third alternative.
Since Pawan Kalyan has been saying that the present coalition arrangement should continue for another 15 years, it is clear that he has no immediate plans to build Jana Sena as a third alternative in the state.
Perhaps that is why Sai Reddy ignored Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena while speaking about the need for a third alternative in Andhra Pradesh.
His remarks indicate that there is still political space in the state for an alternative beyond the TDP and YSRCP.
