The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Andhra Pradesh Police, which is probing the alleged custodial death of 25-year-old Gade Sai Krishna at the Krishna Lanka police station in Vijayawada, has taken into custody a close associate of arrested police inspector S S V V Nagaraju.
Suresh, listed as A4 in the Sai Krishna custodial death case, surrendered before the SIT on Thursday. The police subsequently took him into custody for questioning.
Suresh is alleged to have played a key role in the disposal of the victim’s body after the incident. He allegedly arranged for Sai Krishna’s body to be shifted from the police station and cremated at a burial ground.
“The authorities are presently questioning Suresh to establish the sequence of events that unfolded immediately after the alleged lock-up death. After obtaining all the leads in the case, the police will formally arrest him and produce him before the local court,” an official said.
Preliminary findings suggest that Suresh extended support to CI Nagaraju following the custodial death. Investigators are also examining the nature of Suresh’s involvement in police affairs and his relationship with the officer.
The SIT is further probing allegations that Suresh acted as an intermediary between the police and Sai Krishna’s family after the incident.
Further details are expected to emerge as the SIT continues its investigation.
