A special court for Central Bureau of Investigation cases in Hyderabad on Friday dismissed a petition filed by Dr Y S Sunitha Reddy, daughter of former Andhra Pradesh minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy, seeking a further investigation into her father’s murder.
The court accepted the CBI’s submission that a comprehensive investigation had already been completed and ruled that no further probe was warranted.
It rejected Sunitha’s contention that certain crucial aspects of the case had not been adequately investigated by the CBI.
In particular, she alleged that the agency had failed to thoroughly examine phone calls, text messages and other electronic evidence exchanged between Kiran Yadav and Arjun Reddy, who are among the accused in the case, in the hours immediately following the murder.
In December 2025, the CBI court had partly accepted her request and directed the investigating agency to conduct an additional probe into the disputed call records and electronic communications.
Following the court’s direction, the CBI re-examined the evidence, questioned the individuals concerned and carried out a fresh technical analysis.
In an additional report submitted to the court in March 2026, the agency concluded that the allegedly suspicious messages had not been sent around midnight.
According to the CBI, the confusion arose from a misinterpretation of the time difference between Coordinated Universal Time and Indian Standard Time.
The agency said that once the time conversion was correctly applied, there was no indication that the messages had been exchanged at the time originally suspected.
It further informed the court that the supplementary investigation had not produced any fresh evidence pointing to a larger conspiracy.
During the latest hearing, the CBI reiterated that every possible angle had already been investigated and that there was no need for any further inquiry.
Accepting these submissions, the CBI court dismissed Sunitha Reddy’s petition seeking an additional investigation.
Vivekananda Reddy was found murdered at his residence in Pulivendula in Kadapa district on March 15, 2019. Although his death was initially presented as a heart attack, subsequent investigations established that he had been murdered.
The investigation was later transferred to the CBI following court directions.
The agency subsequently filed charges against several individuals, including YSR Congress Party MP Y S Avinash Reddy and his father, Y S Bhaskar Reddy.
The trial is currently underway before the CBI court.
Throughout the proceedings, Sunitha has repeatedly approached the Supreme Court, the Telangana High Court and the CBI court seeking further investigation, arguing that the probe remained incomplete.
With the latest order, the CBI court has concluded that no additional investigation is required in the case.
