NRIs associated with different political parties in Andhra Pradesh are increasingly unhappy and disillusioned.
Many of them now feel that they were either ignored or betrayed despite investing their money, time, influence and emotional energy in these parties.
A growing section of overseas Telugu supporters, especially from the United States, has slowly come to the conclusion that political loyalty beyond a certain point is simply not worth it.
Before the 2019 elections, a large number of pro-YCP NRIs worked aggressively for the party’s victory.
They spent huge amounts of money, financially supported the party’s social media machinery and campaigned extensively for Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Their efforts eventually helped the YCP secure a massive victory.
Although some NRIs were later accommodated in nominated posts and advisory roles, many others felt ignored after the elections.
What hurt them most was not merely the lack of positions, but the inability to even secure appointments with Jagan Mohan Reddy despite years of loyalty.
Several supporters also felt disappointed that even their political proximity to the YCP did not help them get VIP Tirumala darshan.
Many blamed the coterie around Jagan for keeping NRIs away from the leadership. This frustration eventually reflected in 2024, when overseas enthusiasm and support for the YCP visibly declined.
TDP supporters abroad are also carrying similar dissatisfaction. Since 2019, many NRIs have donated heavily to the party and invested large amounts in Amaravati lands, expecting rapid development under Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership.
However, they now feel that the expected growth has not materialised even after the TDP returned to power.
Many believe that emotional attachment to the TDP is acceptable, but investing money and valuable time in party activities may not be practically beneficial.
Some are also unhappy that despite their contributions, they were not rewarded with meaningful positions.
Even the appointment given to Jayaram Komati is viewed by some as inadequate because the position had to be shared with a Jana Sena representative.
Even Jana Sena NRIs are reportedly upset. Many Jana Sainiks abroad feel that their identity and support are not being properly recognised.
They also believe Pawan Kalyan is unable to exercise independent leadership within the alliance structure, and therefore any help extended to the party holds little meaning.
Overall, many Andhra Pradesh NRIs now feel that despite spending enormous resources and energy on Telugu political parties, very little ultimately works in their favour.
