Don't Change Seniors, Sahu Tells Jagan?

The YSR Congress Party is understood to have begun an early exercise for the 2029 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, with the party examining constituency-level leadership, public sentiment and possible changes in its electoral strategy.

According to party sources, election strategist Kapil Sahu, who is reported to have played a key strategic role in the campaign that contributed to actor-politician Vijay’s political success in Tamil Nadu, has been involved in preparing ground-level reports for the YSRCP.

A report covering five districts has reportedly already been submitted to the party.

The findings are said to include assessments of the performance of current constituency in-charges, possible future ticket allocations, public sentiment and measures required to rebuild the party’s organisational and electoral base.

According to sources, the reports prepared by the strategic team headed by Sahu cover two districts in Rayalaseema, two districts in North Andhra and another district.

The reports are believed to have focused particularly on constituencies where the party needs to rebuild its organisational presence.

One of the key recommendations reportedly concerns candidate selection for the 2029 elections.

Sources said Sahu advised the YSRCP leadership against taking hasty decisions on giving tickets to the heirs of prominent political leaders.

Instead, the Sahu team is understood to have recommended relying on experienced leaders with established political networks and constituency-level support.

Another recommendation reportedly relates to the earlier reshuffling of constituency responsibilities.

The survey team is said to have suggested reversing some of those changes and returning leaders to their traditional constituencies, where they have established political networks.

The report is also understood to have specifically examined constituencies such as Machilipatnam, Cheepurupalli, Gudivada, Gannavaram, Amadalavalasa and Srikakulam, with a recommendation to consider senior leaders for these seats.

The survey has reportedly suggested significant changes in Anantapur district as well.

Sources claim that, based on the recommendations, Jagan has indicated to several senior leaders that they could once again contest from their respective constituencies in the next election.

The names reportedly include Botsa Satyanarayana, Kodali Nani, Perni Nani and Tammineni Sitaram.

Jagan is expected to hold a series of further meetings with senior leaders as the party continues its constituency-level review.

The YSRCP is also reportedly considering restoring some leaders to constituencies from which they were shifted during earlier organisational changes.
