The Pune fort murder case has taken a dramatic new turn, with sources claiming that 20-year-old Siya Goyal had secretly married her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary even after getting engaged to Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal.
Goyal and Agarwal, 25, were reportedly set to marry in November.
But on June 18, Agarwal fell to his death from a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune. Police later alleged that Goyal had conspired to kill him because she did not want to go ahead with the marriage.
Now, investigators are probing claims that Goyal and Chaudhary had secretly married at a local registrar’s office around four months ago.
Police are reportedly checking whether a marriage certificate exists under the Special Marriage Act. If confirmed, it could become a crucial piece of evidence in the case.
Two of Goyal’s college friends, who allegedly signed as witnesses to the marriage, are also under scrutiny, sources said.
Investigators are further trying to recover deleted photographs from a private Instagram account that allegedly showed Goyal and Chaudhary wearing wedding garlands.
Police suspect the alleged murder plot may have been hurried after Agarwal’s family sought Goyal’s documents for a destination wedding planned in Udaipur.
Authorities are also examining Chaudhary’s bank records to find out whether any payment was made to a middleman to bypass procedural requirements and speed up the alleged secret marriage.
Both Goyal and Chaudhary remain in judicial custody.
Agarwal had reportedly met Goyal through family matchmakers, and the two got engaged in February. A hotel in Udaipur had already been booked for a lavish wedding in November.
Days after Agarwal’s death, police arrested Goyal and Chaudhary. Investigators alleged that Chaudhary had followed Goyal and Agarwal to Lohagad Fort as part of the murder conspiracy.
The alleged secret marriage has now added another explosive layer to an already shocking case.
