Bureaucratic circles in Andhra Pradesh are abuzz with rumours that a retired officer, who played a key role in the previous YSR Congress Party government, is offering as much as Rs 400 crore as dowry for his daughter’s marriage.
The reported extravagance of the retired bureaucrat has become a major talking point in official and social circles.
According to these reports, the retired officer is said to be willing to offer an exceptionally large amount as dowry for his daughter’s wedding.

Interestingly, the retired official has been under the scanner of the Andhra Pradesh Police Special Investigation Team and the Enforcement Directorate over his alleged links to the controversial liquor policy of the previous government.
The official, who held an influential position close to the political executive during the previous regime, is one of the accused in the multi-crore liquor policy case being investigated by the SIT and the ED.
He was arrested by the SIT after the Supreme Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea. He was later granted regular bail by the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which took his health condition into consideration while relaxing certain conditions related to his appearance.
Despite maintaining a relatively low-profile public image and being known for his simple attire, allegations surfaced during the liquor policy investigation regarding the accumulation of substantial wealth through alleged dealings linked to the previous government.
Against this backdrop, the reported Rs 400 crore dowry offer has triggered fresh curiosity in bureaucratic circles, with many wondering about the scale of wealth behind such an extravagant marriage proposal.
