A day after All India Congress Committee general secretary and Telangana affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan spoke to former Telangana minister Konda Surekha over the phone, reports emerged that Surekha had been summoned to New Delhi for talks with the party’s top leadership.
According to reports from New Delhi, Surekha reportedly received a call from the Congress high command asking her to travel to the national capital immediately, triggering considerable speculation within the party.
This has led to talk that the Congress leadership may be considering offering her a suitable and respectable position as part of efforts to pacify her and retain her in the party’s best interests.
Sources say the leadership may be exploring an alternative Cabinet-rank position for the senior Congress leader.
It was only last week that Surekha was dropped from the state Cabinet headed by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy after a controversy was triggered by remarks made by her daughter, Sushmita Patel, during her birthday celebrations at Geesugonda in Warangal district.
Despite losing her ministerial position, Surekha made it clear that she would continue as an MLA and remain actively engaged with the people.
However, she has been staying away from the ongoing monsoon session of the State Assembly, apparently to avoid coming face to face with the Chief Minister.
