A controversy surrounding the organisation “RAW NTR” has triggered intense debate among Nandamuri fans and political circles in Andhra Pradesh, following weeks of speculation linking the outfit to actor Jr NTR and his alleged political plans.
RAW NTR had announced a social-service initiative titled “Ooru-Vaada” (Village-to-Village), under which it claimed that it would spend nearly Rs 100 crore to create public infrastructure and welfare facilities in villages.
The announcement led to widespread speculation that the initiative was being launched under Jr NTR’s guidance as part of a carefully planned public-outreach programme ahead of a possible political entry.
The organisers allegedly projected the organisation as being closely associated with the actor without issuing any formal clarification.
The speculation generated considerable interest among the media, NTR’s supporters and political observers, with many interpreting the programme as the first phase of the actor’s political journey.
However, the narrative took a dramatic turn four days ago when Jr NTR’s office issued an official statement distancing the actor from the organisation.
The statement clarified that neither Jr NTR nor his office had any connection with RAW NTR and that they had no knowledge of the organisation or its proposed activities.
Following the clarification, several NTR fan associations accused the organisers of misusing the actor’s name to gain publicity.
Supporters alleged that the organisation had deliberately created the impression that it was operating with Jr NTR’s approval.
Meanwhile, a senior journalist-turned-political analyst predicted that Jr NTR does have plans to enter active politics in the future by launching a series of public-welfare programmes.
According to the journalist, Jr NTR is carefully working out his plans and does not want the details to be disclosed yet.
He also claimed to have information about discussions held by Jr NTR following actor Vijay’s political success in Tamil Nadu and alleged interactions with senior leaders in New Delhi.
“In fact, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy also received information about it and hinted at Jr NTR’s future political prospects during a conversation with a senior journalist,” the analyst said.
He maintained that the actor might not make an immediate political entry. Instead, he claimed that Jr NTR intends to spend at least a year undertaking social-service activities to establish closer contact with the public before taking a final political decision.
The journalist argued that Andhra Pradesh’s current political environment had created space for alternative leadership.
He drew parallels between the present situation and the circumstances under which the late N T Rama Rao entered politics more than four decades ago.
Criticising both the ruling and opposition parties, he alleged that successive governments had failed to prioritise public welfare and accused them of large-scale corruption in sectors including mining, land, irrigation and power procurement.
“If Jr NTR can promise clean and ethical governance, he could attract widespread public support,” he added.
