The petition filed by YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy before the CBI special court in Nampally, Hyderabad, seeking permission to go on a 15-day tour of European countries in October has kicked up a debate.
The CBI special court on Friday granted permission to Jagan to undertake a 15-day trip to Europe. The court said Jagan can travel to Europe between October 1 and November 30.
As Jagan is facing investigation in the disproportionate assets case, he is required to obtain prior court permission before travelling abroad.
According to the court's directions, Jagan must furnish details of his proposed foreign travel to the court and the CBI before leaving the country.
He has also been directed to provide a telephone number and email address through which he can be contacted during the trip.
The court has further imposed conditions requiring him to furnish a surety and appear before the court through video conference after returning from the foreign trip.
The court's permission comes at a time when the State Election Commission is getting ready to conduct local body elections, most likely in October. This has led to speculation over whether Jagan will be away in Europe when the elections are being held.
Sources, however, said that since the court has provided a travel window between October 1 and November 30, the final dates of his trip will be decided after taking into account the schedule of the local body elections, if and when it is announced.
