YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to undertake another district tour on July 30, this time to Srikakulam, where he will meet senior party leader and former minister Dr Seediri Appalaraju, who is currently in judicial remand.
Appalaraju has been lodged in the district jail at Ampolu after being arrested in connection with a hit-and-run case involving his son. Jagan is expected to meet the former minister under prison mulaqat rules.
The YSRCP has consistently maintained that several of its leaders have been implicated in false cases as part of what it describes as political vendetta by the ruling coalition government.
Party leaders said Jagan’s visit is intended to provide moral support to Appalaraju and his family during what they describe as a difficult period.
The party leadership has repeatedly accused the coalition government of targeting prominent opposition leaders through politically motivated cases.
According to the YSRCP, attacks on party workers and the registration of false cases against grassroots leaders have created anxiety among the cadre across the state.
Party leaders believe Jagan’s visit to Srikakulam will boost the morale of workers and demonstrate solidarity with leaders facing legal action.
They also view the visit as part of a broader effort to strengthen the party organisation amid what it describes as politically challenging circumstances.
In preparation for the visit, the YSRCP’s district unit has stepped up organisational arrangements. Former ministers, MLAs and senior district leaders are holding review meetings to ensure that the programme is conducted smoothly.
Meanwhile, local police have begun making security arrangements around the Ampolu district jail to prevent any law-and-order problems during Jagan’s visit.
