A couple of days ago, former minister Konda Surekha declared that she had no plans to quit the Congress. She said she would continue in the party and contest the next elections on a Congress ticket.
She also claimed that senior leaders in the Congress high command had called her to New Delhi for talks and had offered a Cabinet-rank post to her husband, Konda Murali, along with a respectable position for her.
Sources close to Surekha also told the media that she had received a call from the high command asking her to come to Delhi. Her husband too confirmed that she had been asked to visit the national capital. He also said Surekha had refused to apologise to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
However, despite these claims, sources in the Pradesh Congress Committee say there was no such call from the high command to either Surekha or her husband.
According to reports, some senior Congress leaders have also expressed reservations about immediately compensating Surekha with another position after removing her from the Cabinet.
Revanth Reddy is said to have strongly opposed any move to offer a post or position to Surekha or Murali. He reportedly argued that removing a minister and then immediately inviting her to Delhi and offering another position could send the wrong political message.
As a result, even if Surekha travels to Delhi and meets the central leadership, there may not necessarily be any immediate decision on giving her or her husband another post, according to party sources.
There is also reportedly a view among some senior AICC leaders that offering Surekha another position at this stage could weaken the authority of the Congress leadership in Telangana.
TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud told reporters that he had no information about the high command summoning Surekha to Delhi.
Sources said this indicates that any major offer to Surekha would likely be discussed with the PCC leadership and the Chief Minister before a final decision is taken.
So, even if the Konda couple continues in the Congress, as they have indicated, Surekha may not immediately get another official position.
