Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has reportedly sought permission from the Congress high command to drop a couple of ministers who have become a major headache for both the government and the party in the state.
There have been reports that the Chief Minister is considering a Cabinet reshuffle and that the party high command asked him to submit a report on the performance of his ministers.
Accordingly, Revanth Reddy is said to have submitted a detailed assessment of his Cabinet colleagues and sought permission to act against ministers whose conduct is allegedly creating difficulties for both the government and the party.
Sources close to the Chief Minister said the leadership has become increasingly concerned that some ministers are generating controversies instead of focusing on governance and the administration of their respective departments.
Party sources indicate that the leadership has already expressed displeasure with the functioning of at least two ministers and had initially decided to give them more time to improve.
However, there is a growing perception within the party that no significant change has taken place in their conduct, fuelling speculation that disciplinary or administrative action may now be considered.
The reported dissatisfaction stems from repeated instances in which certain ministers have allegedly aired internal disagreements in public, skipped Cabinet meetings, or made remarks seen as contradicting the Chief Minister’s decisions.
Party insiders believe such actions have given the opposition opportunities to target the government despite Revanth Reddy’s efforts to maintain administrative discipline.
Although the Chief Minister is said to have cautioned ministers during several Cabinet meetings, party circles claim that some senior leaders have continued to function independently, leading to coordination problems within the Cabinet.
Political observers have also pointed to an apparent lack of cohesion among ministers, with disagreements between senior leaders increasingly spilling into the public domain.
Internal rivalries, particularly in regions such as Warangal, have reportedly turned into open power struggles, with leaders filing complaints against one another before the party high command.
Senior party functionaries are understood to be unhappy that several internal disputes have reached the Congress leadership in New Delhi, arguing that such developments damage the party’s image and organisational discipline.
There is also concern within the party that some ministers have inadvertently fallen into what leaders describe as political “traps” set by the opposition, causing avoidable embarrassment to the government.
With the Greater Hyderabad municipal elections and the subsequent Assembly elections expected to dominate the political calendar, the Congress leadership is believed to be keen on ensuring greater discipline and unity within the government.
