YSR Congress Party leader and former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi triggered political speculation on Monday by saying that he would soon seek an appointment with Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The development comes amid an intensifying political confrontation between the ruling NDA coalition and the opposition YSRCP, with both sides stepping up their attacks against each other.
Vamsi, who had earlier switched from the TDP to the YSRCP, has in recent weeks written a series of letters to the Chief Minister highlighting public issues.
His latest intervention concerns the severe shortage of irrigation water in the Gannavaram constituency.
During a visit to Tempalli village and the Polavaram canal region, Vamsi inspected agricultural fields where crops were reportedly drying up due to inadequate water supply.
Interacting with farmers, he said the irrigation shortage had become critical and urged officials to release water into the canals immediately.
Vamsi said he had written a detailed letter to the Chief Minister about the farmers’ problems around 10 days ago.
“I am now planning to seek an appointment with Chandrababu Naidu to explain the situation in person,” he said.
At the same time, Vamsi acknowledged the prevailing political atmosphere.
He said that if his meeting with the Chief Minister, or the presence of farmers accompanying him, could create political complications, the farmers themselves could meet Naidu directly and present their grievances.
He stressed that the issue should not be viewed through a political lens and urged the government to act immediately by releasing irrigation water to save the standing crops in Gannavaram.
According to Vamsi, his sole objective is to bring the irrigation crisis to the Chief Minister’s attention and secure relief for farmers without politicising the issue.
